Poverty in America: Part I




The statistics seem hard to believe: in America it is estimated that 40 million people, well over 10% of the population live in poverty.

But what does that mean?

Look at the top picture: this is an American household defined as in poverty.

Look at the bottom picture: its is one that you might see around Sao Paulo, Brazil.

They look different don't they?

What does it mean to be in "poverty" in America? We will explore this in the next four parts of this series.
