Good News on the Gun Front.......for now.....

The EPA has rejected a petition to ban lead from bullets and fishing lures, read it all here.

"EPA is taking action on many fronts to address major sources of lead in our society, such as eliminating childhood exposures to lead," the agency said in a written statement. "However, EPA was not and is not considering taking action on whether the lead content in hunting ammunition poses an undue threat to wildlife."

A coalition of conservation groups had filed its petition earlier this month arguing that the use of lead in ammo and tackle is poisoning the nation's lakes, ponds and forests and asking the EPA to ban the "manufacture, processing and distribution" of lead shot, bullets and fishing.

Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, objected to the pettion, saying the conservationists were trying to circumvent this rule by suggesting that while ammunition itself is exempt from regulation, the chemical components of the ammo and fishing lures -- specifically, the lead -- can fall under the EPA's jurisdiction.

But environmental activists like Michael Fry of the American Bird Conservancy told FoxNews.com that the petitioners waited to submit their request until nontoxic alternatives such as steel, copper and alloy became readily available.

Stay tuned, the gun banners will not stop here.

EPA: Ban Lead Bullets!

The EPA is proposing to ban the use of the metal Lead in bullets, read it all here.

While it is possible to read this as a move by the typical enviro-whacko groups to prevent lead poisoning in deer, more than likely this is a bigger part of the socialist agenda to disarm Americans.

After all, guns are of no use with out effective ammunition. So instead of tackling the Second Amendment head on and getting clobbered for it, the Gun-Banners may take the backdoor route through the EPA.

All patriots need to let the EPA hear from them.

Chicago Gun Ban: Screw you Supreme Court!!

As predicted and threatened, Chicago's boss, Mayor Daley and his rubberstamp councile have enacted new gun ban laws in light of the Supreme Court decision this week on the 2nd Amendment. Read it all here.

The Justices overturned Chicago’s ban on handguns in the city and 4 days later, city aldermen unanimously approved the most-strict regulations on gun ownership in the nation; 45-0. Daley and his team have carefully crafted the ordinance in an attempt to dodge any conflicts with the supreme-court ruling, but at a press conference the Mayor made it clear that he is ready for a fight. “As long as I’m Mayor, I will never give up or give in to gun violence that continues to threaten every part of our nation including Chicago,” He said at a press conference announcing his counter to the ruling.

The ordinance begrudgingly allows gun owner ship but slaps a host of regulations on top of it. Some of the key regulations are as follows:

Gun owners need a Chicago Firearms permit, which costs $100 and must be renewed every 3 years, in addition to their Illinois Firearm owner’s ID.

Firearms sales are banned in the city.

Chicago residents can register only 1 handgun per month.

When a weapon is transported it much be taken apart and not accessible.

It is illegal to have your gun on the porch, yard or Garage. The gun is only legal inside the residence.

Only one gun in the house can be ready to be fired. The rest must have trigger locks or be disassembled.

Guns are banned from hotels, dorms or group living environments.

And so in the land of Daley, American Rights guaranteed by the Constitution remain under constant attack!

In a split 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court upheld the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution that local governments cannot take that right away. Read it all here.

Writing for the court in a case involving restrictive laws in Chicago and one of its suburbs, Justice Samuel Alito said that the Second Amendment right "applies equally to the federal government and the states."

Two years ago, the court declared that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess guns, at least for purposes of self-defense in the home.

That ruling applied only to federal laws. It struck down a ban on handguns and a trigger lock requirement for other guns in the District of Columbia, a federal city with a unique legal standing. At the same time, the court was careful not to cast doubt on other regulations of firearms here.

Gun rights proponents almost immediately filed a federal lawsuit challenging gun control laws in Chicago and its suburb of Oak Park, Ill, where handguns have been banned for nearly 30 years. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence says those laws appear to be the last two remaining outright bans.

Lower federal courts upheld the two laws, noting that judges on those benches were bound by Supreme Court precedent and that it would be up to the high court justices to ultimately rule on the true reach of the Second Amendment.

The Supreme Court already has said that most of the guarantees in the Bill of Rights serve as a check on state and local, as well as federal, laws.

Monday's decision did not explicitly strike down the Chicago area laws, ordering a federal appeals court to reconsider its ruling. But it left little doubt that they would eventually fall.
